After the rain we can often catch some great lighting if we happen to be in the right place at the right time. So often when driving I see terrific light on a landscape and I just want to screech to a halt, jump out of the car and grab an image. I am sure you will have experienced the same thing. Unfortunately it is so rare that we are able to do that. We are either flying along a motorway or driving through narrow country lanes. In both instances there is never anywhere to safely stop the car, By the time you have found somewhere to park, the superbly lit scene that you briefly experienced as you whizzed by, has now changed completely. Or as is so often the case, it is too far away or unaccessible by foot.
This was the case a few evenings ago.
We have been getting a few impressive sunsets of late. This combined with bouts of heavy rain during the day could offer some unusual pictures. So although I have been using my pocket camera recently I thought it was about time I ventured out with my trusty Fujifilm GFX 50R again. I packed the gear into the car and set off locally looking for suitable images before the sun set for the evening. Then as explained in my opening paragraph, I missed a beautiful sunlit field as I drove by with nowhere to stop. So I was determined to get something before I headed back home!
This time of year the trees are bare and I have been experimenting with some local trees whilst out walking. I knew the location of an interesting looking tree and as I passed I spotted the sun reflecting in a puddle after the heavy rain. Fortunately there was somewhere to park nearby! So I scrambled into a muddy field and composed my photographs as the sun set behind heavy clouds.
I think maybe the moral of this little story is to get out more often despite the weather. Also it is probably better to stay on foot rather than relying on the comfort of the car!
