London Pre-Wedding Shoot

Thursday, July 21, 2016

I met Laura & Ryan for their London Pre-Wedding Shoot at the Embankment tube station yesterday. We had planned for a pleasant spring day but due to this unseasonal weather we are currently experiencing, it was more of a winter’s day!

Unperturbed we had a stroll on the Golden Jubilee Bridge before taking a few photographs by Cleopatra’s Needle. Apparently Cleopatra’s Needle was presented to the United Kingdom in 1819 by the ruler of Egypt and Sudan Muhammad Ali, in commemoration of the victories of Lord Nelson at the Battle of the Nile and Sir Ralph Abercromby at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801. Although the British government welcomed the gesture, it declined to fund the expense of transporting the needle to London. The obelisk remained in Alexandria until 1877 when Sir William James Erasmus Wilson, a distinguished anatomist and dermatologist, sponsored its transportation to London at a cost of some £10,000.

The Needle is flanked by two faux-Egyptian sphinxes and I persuaded Laura and Ryan to clamber up onto one of the sphinxes for the shot that you see here. I think this makes a great London Pre-wedding Shoot with the London Eye visiable in the background as well.

Lastly we headed off to Somerset House for some refreshment. This was also a good opportunity to discuss the wedding day plans for the 27th April.

Lauara and Ryan are having their ceremony at the beautiful Roman Catholic Church of The Immaculate Conception and St Joseph, Hertford. I have photographed several weddings there and it is a truely spectacular church.

Current forecasts say we can expect this cold spell to last well into April so we are hoping that by the 27th we will at least see the first signs of some spring weather. Laura and Ryan have planned their reception at South Farm. It looks a delightful venue, perfect for that time of year. I have several other weddings booked there for this year. Strangely enough I haven’t photographed a wedding at South Farm before so I am looking forward to exploring the grounds and many sights that it has to offer a creative wedding photographer.

From a pre wedding shoot I get the couple’s favourite photograph mounted in a large white display mount and bring that along to the wedding reception for guests to sign. I have photographed pre-wedding shoots at many different locations from the middle of Cambridge during the tourist season, St Pancras Station ( where a couple first met ) to White Hart lane football ground ( both bride and groom were mad Spurs supporters! ). We even managed to get Harry Redknapp involved in that one too!
